Out with the Old, In with the New

Spring Baseball has ended. I wrote a little about this last time.

Closing Ceremony was this past week.

Summer Ball has begun!
We joined another league and brought our team from Little League with us. We added a few more kids as well. We will be playing the summer, just for fun. We firmly believe the more the boys play, the better they will get.

Since we had some new kiddos join, we had new uniforms made. This picture was before the printing was done. He is obsessed with baseball. He wakes up and puts all the gear on. We found him one morning with everything on of Hollister's, cup included!

The newest edition is our bat boy. He's the unofficial mascot. He isn't really the bat boy because seriously, that wouldn't be safe for a three year old. But, he is the cutest!

I am sure there will be more written about this new team and summer ball! So, stay tuned!

Slippin' Into some Fun!

Little League baseball ended for us last weekend. We ended with the tournament. It was a double elimination. We lost the first game, won the second, and had to play the team we lost to in game one for our game three. The game was exciting. But we lost amidst some controversy. That's what seems to happen in Elgin Little League. It was a great season though. We enjoyed the team and the parents, so much so that we started a summer team with these kids. This has already proven to be exciting, so expect more posts on baseball.

This was one of the games, not sure which. Hamilton is a super hero with his "scarf cape" brought to him by Cindy (on left) specifically for him. When you play with girls, you use scarf capes! He loved it!
Hollister up to bat. He is becoming quit the little hitter!

After that loss though, we sulked. And by we, I mean Trevor and myself. Trevor was really bummed. He was so proud of the kids, and technically we won. So, the way things unfolded, just leaves a bitter taste in our mouths. Thankfully our friends invited us over for some water fun!

He's moving so fast, he's a blur!

yes, water balloons too!

Things get serious when you bring out the boards and include dish soap!

This is what happened most of the time, lots of crashing!
It was good fun and a much needed distraction.

Mother's Day ... a little late

I found these pictures and forgot I hadn't shared them.

Hamilton made a beautiful flower bouquet with his little hands. Except, his hands aren't so little, are they?
Hollister made this card for me. My favorite "Muddrs Day" card! Look closely, you can read it!
CJ bought a new angel to replace what he and Hollister broke a while back.

I also got a great gift card, I am just waiting to spend. Yes, it is burning a hole in my pocket Mother!

The night before, my husband took me out for dinner and a movie. Just the two of us. It was really great!

The best part of my day? Not doing dishes at all. Kendrick and CJ did brunch dishes and Trevor did dinner dishes. I was enjoying it so much, I didn't even think to take pictures! Seriously, I am a simple girl, who loathes washing dishes more than anything in all of house cleaning.

The Mc Donalds Challenge

Part of being a little league coach is teaching kids how to play baseball. There's quite a lot involved. I think Trevor and his coaches do a great job.

Our players have definitely improved. We have a great team this year and a great group of parents. And if you know anything about little league, you know that is not always the case.

During practice one day Trevor told the team that if they ever made a double play he would take them all to Mc Donald's for Happy Meals. He felt pretty safe that he wouldn't have to pay this bet off.

Each game our kids do okay. Some hit, some strike out, some throw,  some overthrow, they are getting better, but they are 6,7 and 8 years old. Trevor really wants them to have fun and get better.

Last Tuesday night though, they were amazing! First inning, one caught a pop fly for an out. Bottom of the first, we scored 5 runs!!! We were playing the best team in the league and we "run ruled them" in the first inning! They were pumped!

In the second inning our boys were still doing well.
Runners on first and second for the other team, batter up. No outs.
The batter hit a ball to our short stop, he grabbed the ball and tagged the runner from second to third out and then threw it to our second baseman. He got the ball and got the runner out. A DOUBLE PLAY!!!! It took a second, but all the sudden a few kids starting calling out, "Mc Donalds!" The other team was perplexed, but we all knew what it meant. Trevor just kind of looked at me. He said, "Hey, go back to work!"

The boys were beyond thrilled. They did well and knew they had earned free happy meals!

The coaches had to keep the boys focused though, we still had a game to play. We ended up winning the game. It was very thrilling. Our boys know how good this team is!!!
Every boy had at least one hit, and every boy got on base at least once. This doesn't happen every game.

So, this past Saturday, the entire team met at Mc Donlads and Trevor paid his debt.  The boys enjoyed themselves immensely.

Spring Soccer 2013

Soccer season ended last weekend.

We had a U8 tournament. We lost our first game and won our second. The team we lost to in the first game, lost to the team we beat in the second. We all scored the same number of goals. This created a three way tie on our side of the bracket.

It was quite a conundrum because it had not happened before. After much deliberation, the boys from all three teams had to do a goal kick with no goalie. One team made them all. They ended up in first. Two teams missed one each. That was us and the team we had lost to in game one. So, we lined up and did it again. We won that one, which made us second in our bracket, even though we had beaten the team that was in first.

We played the second place team from the other bracket. We were playing for third place overall. Third place would have given us a medal. Hollister really wants a medal!

No suspense here. We lost.

But, we did get trophies!!!

This season sort of flew by. It was short and the weather shortened it even more. Plus, baseball has been in full force and for us, that sport takes precedence.

Currently, we are in full baseball mode with our tournament starting Thursday night!
