Avalanche in Action

Trevor got a new camera a few months ago and it is F-A-N-C-Y!

Since he coaches, it is hard to take a lot of pictures during the game, but he took his camera a few times and got some super great action shots of all the kids warming up.

ENJOY!

Fall Wrap Up Classic

Our basbeall league held its first ever kid-pitch baseball tournament a few weeks ago.

It was November 15th and 16th.

Trevor created this logo and had these Tshirts made.
This was one of the fund raisers for the tournament.

This was the weather for the tournament:

It was C-O-L-D! It drizzled a lot.
But, we played on!

Each team played 2 "pool games" on Saturday. That determines your "seed" for the next day. Each team is guaranteed one game on Sunday. You must win to move on.

The very first game of the tournament was a forfeit.
One of the teams thought it was too cold and didn't show up.
It was a disappointing way to start the tournament, but we prevailed on.

The Avalanche played at their first game and won.

We also won our second game.

2-0! Yahoo!!!
We were the 2nd seed though because another team was also 2-0 with more runs scored.

So, Sunday morning, we played an elimination game.

Kid Pitch teams are an hour and 30 minutes long.
We were the home team because we were seeded higher.

After the fourth inning we were tied 5-5.
Hollister struck out for the first time in the tournament to end this inning.

He was very disappointed. He went into the dugout and apologized to his Daddy and said, "I'm sorry for striking out, We can't go to the championship game." Trevor told him, "You know what son, don't worry about it, maybe you will get another chance."

In the 5th inning, the other team went up 7-5.
Home team up to bat.
We tie it 7-7 forcing a 6th inning.

We are now TWO hours into this game and FROZEN!

The other team went up 8-7 in the top of the 6th inning.

Our turn to bat again.
First two batters walked.
Third batter was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. NO OUTS.
Then they walked in the tying run.

And now, Hollister is up to bat again !!!!!!
He was visibly nervous.

Remember, we need ONE RUN, bases are loaded and there are no outs.

As he was headed to the plate, Trevor told him, "Do what you know to do."

1st pitch: Foul Ball/ Strike 1
2nd pitch: ball
3rd pitch: ball
4th pitch: a swing and a miss
Count 2-2

5th pitch: he hit an inside pitch between 3rd and short
The runner on 3rd scored, and Hollister was SAFE on first.

Avalanche wins!!!!

We move on to the championship game!!!

Hollister was in tears at 1st base. He was so emotional and wanted to win so badly!!!
His Daddy was in tears at first. The team went crazy and mauled him with cheers.

Honestly, it was best played game for kid pitch we have seen or played in.
Both teams fought HARD!!! The game lasted 2 and a half hours!

I think all the coaches and parents were spent after that game. We were just so proud of the team!!!!

Victory talk after the game. The kids had about an hour and a half to thaw out before they had to return to prepare for the championship game.

We played the number 1 seed in the championship game.
We were the visitors.
We started off shaky.
3 strike outs in the first inning and we gave up 4 runs.
The second inning was a different story.
We scored 5 and held them to ZERO runs.
At the start of the 3rd inning, we were winning 5-4!!!!

We had 3 strike outs again. They scored 4.
It was now 4-8.

That ended up being the final score. We took 2nd place and we were thrilled! The boys knew they had done well and everyone was super proud of them all!!!!

My MVP!!!!

This was also the closing ceremony for our league.
Our coach pitch and Tball teams were there to celebrate as well.

Hamilton played Tball.
I have no clear pictures of him with his team.
He was a jumping bean.
The Avalanche after receiving their league medals to go along with their trophies.

The Elgin Youth Baseball League!

It's been a long season. The boys have been through a lot together. This was our first season in kid pitch. We lost a lot of games. We ended our season with some great wins!
We are all looking forward to next season.

And because my posts are not in chronological order,  you'll see some shots from the season soon.

Sports Update

This post was started on October 11th when we had a rainy weekend. I was supposed to get caught up that weekend. It obviously didn't happen. But here it is anyway.

Our two boys are both playing soccer and baseball. We stay very busy.

Hollister actually plays on two baseball teams.

We have a practice or a game every day of the week.

Many days we have overlapping practices. Trevor and I split with the boys a lot.

It's our life.

Days like today, rainy days, have helped. On these days, I can get laundry done at one time instead of a load here and there. I can clean (or at least think about cleaning). We can relax, play, sleep, whatever we want. We miss playing the games, but it is nice to relax.

So, today, I am taking advantage and trying to share some pictures I have taken,

Soon, I hope to get some GREAT pictures to share. Trevor recently got a new camera and it takes amazing pictures. For today though, it will be my phone pictures.

Hamilton loves playing baseball. He is only old enough for tball. He is very good at it and he knows it. He is still scared of the ball so catching it, is tough. But, he loves hitting and he can whack the heck out of it. He is a fast runner, so he almost always gets on base. And, he is really good at sliding. He will slide every chance he gets and even when there is no need for it.

He still enjoys playing catcher. He doesn't play it as much now though because he is needed to play the infield.

He really loves playing pitcher. In tball, the umpire tells the pitcher, "Pitcher pitch", then turns to the batter and says, "Batter bat". It all happens fairly quickly. Not when Hamilton is pitching though. He has been attending quite a few kid pitch games and he watches those pitchers. He is the only tballer I know that has a wind up.

Hollister has been enjoying kid pitch too. It has been tougher that coach pitch, but throughout the season he has improved so much. He is a smart baseball player and when he uses his head, he is unstoppable.

A few weeks into the season we had this banner donated for our team. It is amazing.
We hang it at every game and it just says "We are here and we came to play!"

How awesome is this picture of our boy?
That's a real baseball player there!!!

Stay tuned, there will be more!
