Another game ball, not quite the same though

The last sentence of my last entry was “Tuesday night was fall asleep early and rest, rest, rest…”

Well, honestly, we did… We were tired. We were up until 1:45am preparing everything for the retirement party. We were up at 5:15am to begin our work day. Thank goodness soccer season is over so there was no practice and we didn’t have Tball. We were just tired.
But, the rest didn’t last long. Trevor’s cakes and cupcakes were quite a hit at the retirement party and he received another cake order for FRIDAY!!!
Our school is having a TAKS party to celebrate and the administrators asked if Trevor could make the center piece cake. They chose a baseball theme which is quite appropriate in our home.
Wednesday night was cake baking time again and yep, you guessed it, NO PICS! I was washing dishes. I know, it sounds funny, but when so many cakes are being baked, clean dishes and clean work spaces are critical.

Thursday night was cake building and decorating. Trevor actually made 2 cakes. One cake is the baseball. He has made this cake before, but as a tennis ball. The other cake was home plate which is where the baseball cake would sit on. He wanted home plate to look like home plate, dirty. So, he crushed graham crackers and sprinkled them on the cake and the board. It is a great effect, but did I mention how I am the dish washer? Well, I am also the floor sweeper and let me just say, crushed graham cracker goes EVERYWHERE!

The next step was to the ball. Trevor learned a few tricks from making the tennis ball and this time was a bit more methodical. He actually turned the cake upset down and decorated the bottom portion, then turned it back over, set it in place with a dowel and decorated the top half.

Drawing the red stitch line.

Inserting the dowel. This will just make it sturdy for transport.

This was the ball as the centerpiece at the party after school.
